The Missouri Libertarian Party Endorses Show-Me Cannabis

The Executive Committee of the Missouri Libertarian Party Passes a Resolution in Support of the Show-Me Cannabis Initiative

The Show-Me Cannabis Regulation organization has filed a petition with the Secretary of State to place an initiative on the November 2012 ballot to legalize (for individuals 21 and over) and regulate cannabis (marijuana) in the State of Missouri (http://show-mecannabis.com/about/the-initiative/). The ballot language has been approved and signature collection has started.

In keeping with the Missouri LP's platform plank to "Repeal statutes regarding victimless crimes" and the National Libertarian Party platform statement "Only actions that infringe on the rights of others can properly be termed crimes. We favor the repeal of all laws creating crimes without victims, such as the use of drugs for medicinal or recreational purposes", the Executive Committee, acting on behalf of the State Committee of the Missouri Libertarian Party, passed the following resolution:

"We, the Missouri Libertarian Party, hereby endorse the Show-Me Cannabis initiative to legalize cannabis in the State of Missouri for individuals 21 and older. Inasmuch as Libertarian principles have long held that it is immoral for government to criminalize individuals' peaceful behavior, lifestyle choices and choices of medication, for which he or she bears sole responsibility; and inasmuch as the Drug War is a costly failure that has made our neighborhoods less safe, filled our prisons with peaceful peoples and taking them out of productive society, and diverted our police force to the legalized plunder of asset forfeiture and away from addressing real crimes against persons and property, the Missouri Libertarian Party enthusiastically endorses this initiative which will increase liberty for Missourians."

Voters who are Fed Up! with bailouts, stimulus plans that only stimulate bigger government, government takeover of health care, rising unemployment, never-ending foreign wars, and a big brother police state will find common ground with the Libertarian Party.
